Teletalk earns Tk 518 crore, Alaap earns Tk 28 crore

BTCL, Teletalk, and TSS review meeting held

A review meeting of BTCL, Teletalk and Telephone Shilpa Sangstha-TSS was held separately at the conference room of Posts and Telecommunications Division of Bangladesh Secretariat on Thursday. BTCL Managing Director Md Anwar Hossain, Teletalk Managing Director Nurul Mabud Chowdhury and Tesys Managing Director Ashraf Hossain were present at the meeting.

It was shown in the presentation that till April last year, the number of subscribers of Teletalk was 65 lakh. And in the financial year 2022-23, it has earned Tk 518 crore. The operator has 5 3G and 4G towers out of a total of 5661 towers. There are 1201 2G and 4G towers as well. Except for these towers, all the remaining towers are being transferred to 4G spectrum by shutting down 3G. BTCL is also preparing for the global launch of the 'Alaap' app. This app can now be used by 20,000 users simultaneously. About Tk 28 crore has already been earned from 609 minutes of paid calls in this app.

Posts and Telecommunications Secretary Dr Md Mushfiqur Rahman was present on the occasion.

In the meeting, State Minister for Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology Zunaid Ahmed Palak directed the concerned to determine and implement the efficient management of unused resources, reducing unnecessary expenses and ensuring maximum use of existing technology.

In the meeting, the State Minister stressed the need for proper use of unused resources, operation, management, marketing, and efficient management to establish BTCL, Teletalk and TSS as proud organizations.

In the meeting, Zunaid Ahmed Palak directed the concerned authorities to utilize the opportunity of turning BTCL into a profitable organization by formulating and implementing plans to ensure proper use of BTCL's unused land, increasing the quality of calling app Alaap service, increasing the coverage of broadband internet life services and ensuring planned use of other infrastructures. Similarly, he directed Teletalk and Telephone Shilpa Sangstha to take initiatives to formulate and implement proper plans to utilize the opportunities to transform the two companies into profitable organizations by ensuring proper management of resources and technology.
He said smart asset management is essential to make loss-making companies in the telecommunication sector profitable. It is possible to transform BTCL, Teletalk and Telephone Shilpa Sangstha into profitable state organizations by ensuring efficiency, sincerity and proper management and planned use of resources.
